Scheduling an Election

To schedule an election, send an e-mail to vcinductions@tannu.org. 3 or 4 members of the chapter your district is associated with will attend the meeting you specify and conduct the election. The OA members can use anywhere from 10-30 minutes, depending on the Scout Master's preference.

Information About Elections

The Order of the Arrow is an honor campers' brotherhood chartered by the Boy Scouts of America to recognize those campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and, by such recognition, cause other campers to conduct themselves in such a manner as to warrant similar recognition, to promote camping, and to crystalize the habit and helpfulness as a life purpose. As a unit leader, we want you to be informed as to our policies and encourage you to call upon us as a resource for your unit. If you have any questions concerning our organization or operations, please contact one of us. We will do our best to provide you with accurate answers to your inquiries. We would like to take this opportunity to explain and to clarify some of the national (and Lodge) policies.

The Order of the Arrow is a youth organization--adults are considered to be honorary members of the lodge and as such they must be nominated to and approved by the lodge. Each Boy Scout Troop or Varsity Team, only upon holding a youth election in which at least one youth has been elected, is allowed to submit a nomination of one adult for each increment or partial increment of 50 active youth as of the date of the election per year to its local lodge, in our case, Tannu Lodge. The nomination is reviewed and approved or disapproved at the lodge level. Units are notified through their Chapters whether or not a nomination is approved. It is only after approval has been obtained that an adult is eligible to be called out to become a candidate for the Order of the Arrow. Adults should not be called out until approval notification has been received by the unit from the lodge. There is no, repeat no, provision for nominations by Exploring units.
